Winter is filled with cozy socks, hot tea and fuzzy blankets. But, it can also be easy to let the lack of sunshine get to you. Here are our favorite tricks to beating the winter blues.
- Exercise: Exercise is so important year-round, but it takes even more intent in the winter. We believe that exercise does just as much for you emotionally and mentally as physically, and they’re right when they say the toughest part is the first thirty steps. Just get to the gym. Get outside…or to the yoga studio, or spin class. Find something that works for you and stick with it.
- Happy light: There’s all kinds of theories out there about happy lights, and honestly, they’re great. Just turn it on while you’re putting your makeup on and you’re starting the day off with an extra 20 minutes of sunshine. Ashley has this Verilux lamp and swears by it.
- Keep it fresh: For us, it’s easy to get in a bit of a rut and go from the office straight home. Instead, try to plan weekday activities and change up your routine a bit. Mid-week movie? Sure! Monday night speaker series? Go for it! Have you been talking about joining (or starting) a book club? Great, now is the time.
- Pick up a hobby: For us, we try to pick one or two things to focus on outside of work to keep us excited. Maybe it’s implementing a minimalist wardrobe, taking up painting, or redecorating a new room. Regardless of what it is, pick one thing and stick to it all winter.
