Fitness is a bit part of our focus this year, but we both can get bored of our normal gym and love mixing it up with other workouts to keep us motivated. Hot yoga, cycling, dance, zumba…we’ve tried it all and basically love anything that gives us a a good workout. SoulCycle is the newest to enter our regular workout rotation and we are totally in love. All the hype around it is completely justified, which is why we are so excited there’s a brand new studio that just opened up next to us in Bellevue! We had such an amazing time at the grand opening that we decided to grab 15 of our friends and take them this past Saturday. Working out with friends always makes it so much more enjoyable, and we loved sharing an awesome workout with them. The energy in the room was incredible and we are still feeling the high. A huge thank you to SoulCycle for letting us host such a large group of women, and to Suja Juice for sending us delicious juices for us and our classmates to enjoy afterwards. Here’s a few photos from the event!
Like we mentioned earlier, fitness is a big part of our 2017 resolutions. And, resolutions isn’t even really the right word. They’re more like intentions. Because we really don’t want this to be something we think about for two months and then forget in March. We’ve decided to really try to make a lifestyle change, and part of that just means being more active in our everyday lives, and being forgiving when we don’t make it to the gym as often as we feel we should. Here are a few of the things we’re doing, and thinking about, to help transform our lives to be healthier.
- Try to hit the gym/workout class/hike/run at least four days a week. If it doesn’t happen though, no biggie. We’ll be back next week. It’s all about being gentle to yourself and forgiving if you miss a day…because life happens and schedules get busy, but working out is something we want to prioritize.
- Stairs over elevator, regardless of the shoes. We both usually rock wedges to work at least 50% of the time, but this is an easy and quick way to get some extra steps in and be more active throughout the work week. I’ve committed to walking the stairs at least once a day (sometimes twice!) and being on the 12th floor means it’s quite a walk. But, I’ve gotten a few buddies to agree to it with me and it actually makes the time really productive.
- Multi-tasking at the gym is totally acceptable. We’ve talked a lot about our book club on the blog, and it’s so fun to meet with our girlfriends once a month to take about our book. Truthfully though, it’s hard to read a book every month with everything else we have going on. My newest trick is multi-tasking at the gym, so I’ll bike or cycle for about an hour and get a ton of reading done. No music, just me, my book and the bike. Sure, there’s other workouts that would probably be much better, but at least I’m moving and getting some reading done. I’ve also been known to watch Youtube videos or tutorials at the gym for the same reason.
- Change it up. Yes, we both have gym memberships. But, that doesn’t mean we can buy a few classes or a week pass at another studio and change things up to keep it exciting. We’ve already talked about going back to SoulCycle and buying some classes at CorePower in Queen Anne.
How do you stay motivated? What workouts are you currently loving? We’d love to hear in the comments!
