A few weeks ago I found myself totally caught up in the whirlwind of everyday life. It was one of those phases where it felt like every aspect of my life was suddenly demanding more time and energy than normal, and I barely had time to do my grocery shopping, let alone reflect on what I appreciated most.
Around this same time, I heard an amazing talk at the Yellow Conference. The speaker had us list out the 5 most important things to us, and then through a few exercises, narrow it down to one. She then asked, “in your day to day, do you put the most energy into this? Would this person or thing know that they are the most important to you?” This exercise really resonated with me — and confirmed the importance of intentionally reflecting on what I’m grateful for.
So, because I wasn’t confident that I could commit to full on journaling everyday, I added a quick and simple practice to my morning routine. Before falling into the chaos that is getting up and out the door, I take a minute to list out 3 things I am grateful for, and something I want to focus on for that day. It helps to set a positive tone for the day, and reminds me to look for the little, positive aspects of my typical day.
If you decide to incorporate this into your morning, or even bedtime, routine — let us know how it goes for you!
Have the best Monday!
