You know that scene in the Lizzie McGuire Movie where Kate Sanders pulls Lizzie’s gown open and declares, “Lizzie McGuire, you are an outfit repeater!”? If you do, A: we should be friends, and B: you probably have the same hesitance to repeating outfits engrained in you. It’s a bit dramatic to claim that that scene is the key moment that set off my shopping obsession (at times addiction), and self-consciousness of wearing the same pieces many times in a row…but it certainly resonated with me.
However, there are situations that push me to get past this – like packing for a week long trip in a single carry on. And better yet, there are specific pieces that get me over this aversion, like a short sleeved wrap dress in the perfect red.
On our trip to Antigua, this dress made more than one appearance. It was just the perfect thing to slip on for lunch, dress up for our nights out, and even to throw over a bathing suit. If I’m being honest, the obsession didn’t stop there. As soon as we touched down in Seattle, I made sure to have the dress washed and ready to wear to the What She Said Style Summit conference. It’s just that good.
The moral of the story here is, as always, everything in moderation. Balance our your repeat outfit days with a few new looks…with the exception of those few pieces that you just can’t get enough of. Wear those every day if you want to, who cares what Kate Sanders thinks.
