Last weekend, we ventured down to Portland for an impromptu girl’s weekend trip and had the best time. Let’s be real…the holidays can totally take it out of you, and sometimes, you just need to grab your bestie and get away for a few days, right? So, we decided to go down just a few days before the weather took a quick turn for the worst and Portland unexpectedly got a foot of snow. Neither one of us have four wheel drive and aren’t super comfortable driving in the snow, so we found ourselves panicking on Friday morning when we woke up and the roads were still a mess. We had scheduled to leave early on Saturday morning and snow was still covering the city and the roads. At this point, we were even more nervous about the roads as the snow was turning into ice and making for extra challenging driving conditions. In the spirit of our new “let’s just go with the flow and make the most out of everything” mindset, we decided to book the Amtrak and not let the snow interfere with our trip. And boy, we’re so glad we did!
We boarded the 7:30 am train on Saturday morning, Portland bound. With heavy eyes and two large coffees in hand, we met at the Seattle train station ready for a full weekend of eating, shopping and lots of girl time. By the way, for those of you in the Seattle area, the train was such an amazing experience, and we highly recommend you consider it if you don’t want to drive. The train ride itself was beautiful, and super easy and convenient (except for the slight delays, so plan your time accordingly.)
Next week, we’ll be sharing a full recap of where we ate, what we did and our favorite areas to explore in the city. But this week, we’re sharing our first outfit that we stepped out in for dinner on Saturday night, and three of the best things about going out of town with your best gal pal.
- The loads of conversations, laughs, and memories. If you and your bestie are like us, she’s the first person you text in the morning and the last person you text at night and you’re usually texting/emailing/Snapchatting all day, every day. But still, hanging out uninterrupted for two days is so much better. There’s nothing better than some good ol’ quality time together, especially when we’re both so busy.
- You’re probably going to be on the same page about, well, everything. Honestly, we’re both “Type A” personalities and love having everything planned out, within reason. Last week, we sat down and made a schedule with time to eat, shop, and “hang out.” Sounds a little crazy, but we wanted to fit everything in and that required serious planning. And of course, our schedule got messed up before we even left Seattle. The train ride pushed everything back and the snow made getting around a little more difficult than we anticipated, so we more or less threw our schedule out the window and it actually made for a better weekend. Sunday morning, first thing we did was reach for the room service and spend hours watching TV in our rooms eating chocolate croissants and eggs/toast. Like come on, does it get any better than that?
- A great excuse for a sleepover. On Saturday evening, we went bar hopping, ate at this amazing ramen restaurant, and finished the night with sake and Devil Wears Prada in bed. We were roommates throughout college, and having a “grown-up” sleepover took us right back to being roomies.
What are you waiting for? Text her right now and book a trip. We promise you won’t regret it.
